The Edge Softening plug-in is an extraordinarily slick tool for creating soft roll-overs on your model. This works best for models of things that look like they are manufactured. You might need to increase your mesh display density (File>Properties>Mesh) to get a cleaner result. I recommend not exceeding 10% of whatever your object size is for the cleanest result. 1-5% seem to yield the most convincing result. If you need to extract the softened mesh, the command is “ExtractSoftenedEdgeMesh” and you’ll get a copy of your object as a mesh that you can use for rendering.
